top 5 things you didn’t bring to your apartment

or at least I didn’t. if you will be living in the apartments next year, don’t make the same mistake as me and my roommates.

5. storage bins (you can never have too many unless you have to store your storage bins for your storage bins)

4. Large Broom / Small dustpan (I don’t know about everyone else but people I know usually have one but not both.)

3. flashlight (sometime you need more than your iphone)

2. screwdriver/hammer (if you don’t have these you will be borrowing these and then forget to return it)

1. Plunger (until recently)

And never put off getting stuff. It never gets done and you just end up at the end of winter quarter wondering why you didn’t buy it at the beginning of the year. And where can you buy it in walking distance from your apartment.

My favorite Peanuts comic of all time is this one where Linus tells Charlie Brown about the finish of an exciting football game. He describes how the home team was losing, and the quarterback made a brilliant pass and the home team scored a touchdown and won the game, and the the everyone from the home team from the fans to the players was cheering as if it was the Greatest Game Ever. Charlie Brown just looks at Linus and asks, “How did the other team feel?”

I try to apply this feeling to more than just football games, considering I don’t watch those to often. I remember this comic whenever I succeed, or get what I want, as there are other people who didn’t get what they wanted as a result of my success.

the stress of an individual is made by the individual, thus they can be solved by the individual.

"My purpose here…is to tell a story I do not think is being told. To show an experience I believe is not being shown. To find a way to tell how it affects and creates for the future."

living

when you’re a baby, there’s a few key moments that we use to say when you’re growing up or gaining independence.
the first thing is walking. once we walk, we can go anywhere we want. we have the ability to check things.
the second thing is speaking. we can say words and learn to hear them as well. we have can start discovering things through our words.
walking is living. talking is living. that is why I love to walk and I love to talk (unfortunately for some people).
I don’t want ever get to the point where I’m afraid of walking or I refuse to speak up. At that point, I’m afraid of living.

“Fear plays an interesting role in our lives. How dare we let it motivate us! How dare we let it into our decision making, into our livelihoods, into our relationships. It’s funny, isn’t it? We take a day a year to dress up in costume and celebrate fear.” — Robert California from the Office

As some of you might know, I am a huge HIMYM fan. What some of you might not know is that I usually read reviews of the show. I was reading over one particular review from the AV Club, but one particular paragraph stood out to me (Here’s the link  - http://origin.avclub.com/articles/noretta,63860/):

“I understand Kevin and Nora as story devices and even as romantic partners for the characters. I really do. The two of them are the people you try to love because there’s nothing wrong with them, because you really should stop letting the intangibles scuttle what your intellect tells you is the best you could ever hope to do. But it’s painful to watch them bluff their way through it, because Kevin and Nora are going to end up being the innocent victims of the romantic comedy, the dude that Sandra Bullock brings home for Thanksgiving dinner who suffers from adenoids and is doomed to be dumped so that she can be swept off her feet by her childhood sweetheart-slash-mortal enemy. They don’t deserve it; the people in that position never do. Their crime is to be on the wrong side of destiny.

As a member of the audience, I’ve spoken about how much I like Robin and Barney more than their current relationships. But this line really helped me understand their role in the show. It really resonated with me.

That’s the thing about watching a really great series: Even an okay episode can become great because of its place in the larger story.
